Espresso maker as a symbol of Italian coffee culture
The brand became famous above all through the invention of the world-famous octagonal stove pot, the "Moka Express", in 1933. With this, the inventor expressed his creativity, passion and culture. It revolutionized the preparation of Italian espresso and continues to delight coffee lovers all over the world to this day. Another characteristic feature is the caricature of Renato Bialetti, the son of the founder Alfonso, which has been emblazoned on the espresso makers for decades with a raised index finger. Then as now, Bialetti offers the best products for our home, where we can enjoy the unique and authentic taste of this original espresso while socializing with friends. The special shape allows the heat to be distributed optimally, so that the aroma is significantly enhanced. Delicious coffee is ready to serve in just a few minutes and impresses with its full and strong taste.
The product family is growing
Bialetti's high-quality products offer simplicity and functionality through advanced technology and beauty through exceptional design. Since the 1950s, over 200 million Bialetti coffee makers have been sold. The Bialletti product family has grown steadily, so that today various espresso machine models are available in all colors and styles. For example, the Bialetti Venus was added, which has several advantages over the traditional aluminum espresso maker. The innovative Moka pot made of heat-resistant stainless steel allows preparation on a ceramic hob, an induction stove or a gas stove. As a special plus, it is also dishwasher safe. The Bialetti has been in New York for some time now and is open to visitors at the Modern Museum of Arts.
Bialetti now also roasts coffee
It was only a matter of time before the cult brand Bialetti made its own coffee. The company even roasts it itself and therefore has complete control over the choice of the right beans, the right roasting level, the roasting time and of course the perfect grind for preparation in the mocha pot. The Bialetti Perfetto Moka Classico is a classic Italian roast with a large proportion of Robusta beans. The Bialetti Perfetto Moka Hazelnut, on the other hand, promises, as the name suggests, a nutty taste experience. A dark roast with chocolatey flavor notes is revealed in the Bialetti Perfetto Moka Cioccolato.
Learn more about the Bialetti brand
Where is Bialetti produced?
Bialetti is a traditional Italian brand headquartered in Coccaglio (Province of Brescia). Today, the group’s production facilities are located in Italy, Romania, and Turkey. Development, design, and brand identity remain clearly Italian – the Moka pot is still a symbol of Italian coffee culture.
What makes Bialetti special?
Like hardly any other brand, Bialetti stands for authentic Italian coffee enjoyment at home. With the invention of the Moka Express in 1933, Alfonso Bialetti revolutionized coffee preparation. The iconic octagonal shape ensures optimal heat distribution and an intense aroma. Timeless design, high functionality, and the famous mustached man as a trademark complete the brand’s identity.
Which Bialetti is the best?
That depends on your stove and personal preferences:
- Moka Express: the classic aluminum model for gas and electric stovetops
- Bialetti Venus: made of stainless steel, suitable for induction, dishwasher-safe
- Moka Induction: a combination of aluminum and stainless steel for modern cooktops
In terms of taste, all models deliver the typical strong Bialetti moka – the choice mainly depends on material and type of stove.
How many spoonfuls of coffee go into a Bialetti?
The filter basket should always be filled completely, without tamping the coffee.
As a rule of thumb:
- approx. 6–7 g of coffee per cup
- the grind size should be between espresso and filter coffee
The key is not the number of spoonfuls, but that the filter basket is filled level with the rim.
Why does Bialetti coffee become bitter?
Bitterness is usually caused by preparation errors:
- grind too fine
- heat too high
- pot left on the stove for too long
- cold water heated directly
Tip: Preheat the water, use medium heat, and remove the pot from the stove as soon as the coffee flows evenly.
Is Bialetti espresso or moka?
Strictly speaking, it is moka, not classic espresso. The pressure in a Bialetti is lower than in an espresso machine. In terms of flavor, however, the coffee comes very close to espresso: strong, intense, and full-bodied – typically Italian.
Why is a Bialetti not dishwasher-safe?
The classic aluminum Moka Express should not be cleaned in the dishwasher:
- detergents attack the aluminum
- oxidation can affect taste and appearance
When should you remove the Bialetti from the stove?
As soon as the coffee flows evenly into the upper chamber without bubbling. At the latest when you hear a hissing sound, remove the pot from the stove. The residual heat is sufficient to finish brewing and helps avoid bitterness.
How do you make coffee with a Bialetti?
- Preheat the water
- Fill water up to just below the safety valve
- Fill the filter basket completely with freshly ground coffee (do not tamp)
- Screw the pot together
- Heat on medium heat
- Remove from the stove once the coffee flows evenly
- Serve immediately and enjoy
This produces a full-bodied, aromatic moka without bitterness.
